Despite its deceptive name, the city of West Chicago is actually located about 36 miles west of downtown. It is neighbored by Wheaton and Batavia. The city sits between IL-64 and IL-38, and is a stop along Metra’s Union Pacific West Line.

West Chicago is primarily served by school District 33 and high school District 94, which features the 2016 state award winning science facility at West Chicago High School.
The West Chicago Park District manages over 390 acres of parkland, while the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County oversees the West Chicago Prairie Preserve. The prairie is part of the Illinois Prairie path, and is one of the largest and best preserved in the Midwest.
