Is A Shift To The Suburbs On The Horizon?

The COVID-19 Pandemic has turned normal life upside down. Whether you are working from home, home with kids, or an essential worker who leaves the house everyday, these times are challenging for all. Many are starting to think, what will happen when this is all over? And though we don’t know for sure yet, we are starting to see the want and need for more space, which is sending many young couples, and families from city living to suburban oasis. Once the stay-at-home orders are lifted we very well might see a “fight” to get to the suburbs. We started this pandemic with an already low inventory market, so this will be an interesting summer to see how fast homes will go. Since May 1st our team alone has had 29 contracts on properties. Even during a pandemic, the spring market is hot and will only get hotter.

I have a few tips to get yourself ready if you feel motivated to make the move to the suburbs.

First, start your online search. Especially in today’s current environment, most listings have some sort of a tour or video. Agents are also finding great ways to host zoom or facetime tours or do a virtual walkthrough for you. Make sure to ask questions, this is a great time to narrow down the area and must haves for your future home.

Second, make sure to get pre-qualified. Start talking to your lender now about the different options you would have. Yes, banks have tightened their criteria during this time, so it is important to know what you can afford. Now is a great time to work on improving your credit. And if you need to sell your current apartment or home, this is a great time to tackle some home improvement projects.
